Warriors split the season opening series with Marion Military

The Wabash Valley softball team started off the season by winning three of four games on the road in Alabama.

                The first doubleheader of the season was against Marion Military Institute in Marion, AL.

First game, the Warriors used two big early innings to put the game out of reach. The Warriors scored seven in the 2nd and four in the 3rd for an 11-0 short game victory. The 3rd inning started with Taylor Miles reaching on an error, Jade Montgomery followed with a single, Madison Bauer singled to right and Miles scored. With 1 out, Destinee Miles doubled to left-center scoring Montgomery and Bauer. Paige Byrd reached on an error by the left fielder, Kyndell Ethridge walked, Megan Eder singled to right to score Miles and Byrd, and Hannah Shirley followed with a single to score Eder. T Miles later singled to score Eder for the final run of the inning.

Montgomery was the winning pitcher (1-0). She went four innings, struck out three, walked three, and gave up one hit in four innings.

Leading hitter were D. Miles (2 for 4), Byrd (2 for 4), Ethridge (2 for 3), Eder (2 for 3), T. Miles (2 for 4), and Bauer (2 for 3)

T. Miles added 4 RBI's and Eder added 3 RBI's.

 

Second game was a pitcher's duel won by Marion 2-1 on a walk off single. Warriors only scored 1 run in the 5th inning. With the bases loaded and two outs Paige Byrd was walked for the only run and RBI of the game.

Hannah Shirley (0-1) was the losing pitcher. She went 6 2/3 innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, struck out four and walked one.

Leading hitter was Kyndell Ethridge (2 for 3).
