WARRIORS TOPPLE WABASH VALLEY 11-3

Oxford, AL – No. 13 Indian Hills Softball picked up its second win of the year at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Preview at Choccolocco Park on Saturday. The Warriors dropped Wabash Valley College (IL) 11-3 to move to 2-2 on the year.

Returning All-American Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) drove in a season-high five runs while going 2-3, including a home run to pace the offense. Freshman Jill Smith (Walker, IA/North Linn), in her first-career start for the Warriors, went 3-4 with two RBI and a double. Freshmen Tatum Aragon (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) and Hannah Simpson (Fairfield, IA/Fairfield) both added a pair of hits in the win.

Sophomore Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) picked up the win in the circle after going six innings with just two earned runs allowed.

Originally scheduled for six games in Oxford, unfavorable weather limited the Warriors' schedule against some of the top teams in the nation. The Warriors were forced to cancel its second game Saturday night for the second straight day due to rain and poor field conditions. Indian Hills went 1-1 on Thursday before dropping a 5-4 contest to Northwest Florida State College on Friday while wrapping up action Saturday against Wabash Valley.

The Warriors broke things open in the first inning Saturday to take an early lead over Wabash Valley. Abby Martin (Lamoni, IA/Lamoni) and Aragon collected back-to-back singles to open the game before Anderson delivered a three-run home run for the first inning advantage.

Wabash Valley responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half, but Indian Hills used a five-run third inning to pull away. Smith's two-run double scored Claire Mathews (Centerville, IA/Centerville) and Jensyn Jones (Swisher, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) for the big hit of the inning.

Anderson added a run-scoring double in the fifth to push the lead to 9-2 in favor of the Warriors. Sophomore Sydney McNeeley (Pleasant Hill, IA/Southeast Polk) tallied an RBI single before Julia Kwakernaak (The Hague, Netherlands/Segbroek College) capped the scoring with an RBI base hit.

In total, 10 different Warriors recorded a hit while eight different individuals crossed the plate in the win.

Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Hillsboro, MO to take on Jefferson College (MO) for a doubleheader on March 3.
