Paul Schnarre’s illustrious career at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, IL had its beginning in the Fall of 1971 when he was employed as Agricultural Technologies Instructor. 

 

Born and raised in Taylorville, IL, Schnarre’s collegiate career was at SIU-C where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and a Master of Science degree in 1972. 

 

He and his wife, Karen, were married in 1975 and are the proud parents of two sons, Matthew (Suzanne), and Nicholas; and the proud grandparents of three grandchildren, Lucas, Madison,and Alex.

 

Schnarre’s involvement in athletics at WVC began in 1973 when he was named as Head Baseball Coach, a position which he held from 1973-1976, attaining an 85-47 record.  He guided WVC Baseball to its first Southern Illinois Collegiate Conference Championship in 1976.

 

Schnarre was named WVC Athletic Director in the Fall of 1976, a position which he held until July 1, 2013.  During his impressive tenure as Athletic Director, WVC captured a multitude of honors, including:  Winning 28 NJCAA Regional Championships; Having 25 teams playing in National NJCAA Division I Tournaments; Final Four appearances :  Baseball (3rd in 1989); Softball (4th in 1984 & 2005); Men’s  Basketball (2001 National Champions & 4th in 2002); 13 GRAC All-Sports Trophies; 2012-All 4 WVC Sports Teams won GRAC Championships; Every WVC Team has been Nationally Ranked. 

 

Assuming the position of Softball Coach at WVC in 1980, Schnarre served in this position from 1980-1989 and from 1994-2018 and has completed 36 seasons as Head Coach.  Reading like a “Who’s Who in NJCAA Softball,” Paul Schnarre’s renowned career has amassed a lengthy and most remarkable list of accomplishments, including:

 

*23 Great Rivers Athletic Conference Championships (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2014, 2016,2017,2018, 2019)

 

*11 NJCAA Region XXIV Championships (1984, 1985, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2015)

 

*10 NJCAA Division I National Tourney Appearances (1984-4th, 1997-5th, 2001-9th, 2002-13th, 2003-9th, 2004-6th, 2005-4th, 2008-7th, 2009-13th, 2015-7th)

 

*2006-WVC Softball Field Named “Paul Schnarre Field”

 

*2007-Inducted into the “NJCAA Softball Hall of Fame”

 

*2010-April 8, Captured 1,000th Career Victory with a 7-3 “come-from-behind victory” over John A. Logan

 

*2015-April 17, Earned 1200th Career Victory with 5-2 win over Olney Central

 

*2017- April 24, Earned 1300 Career Victory with a 12-0 win over Frontier

 

*2019- April 30, Earned 1400 Career Victory with a 5-1 win over Lincoln Trail

 

*Current Career Softball Coaching Record of 1404-325, ranks 1st among all Coaches in NJCAA in career victories

*Currently ranks 5th in victories among all college coaches at all levels (NCAA,NAIA,NJCAA)

*Coached 35 NJCAA All-Americans

 

*74 Players Achieved NJCAA Academic All-American Status Since 2000

 

*2001 and 2012, WVC Was Named “NJCAA National Softball Academic Team of the Year”:

2001-3.60 Team GPA, 2012-3.62 Team GPA
