Deffendall is in his 21st season and 4rd season as head coach with Wabash Valley. Prior to his time at WVC, Deffendall was an Assistant Coach at Olney Central College in Olney, IL. He has accumulated a 878-204 record and 88-54 as head coach at WVC and an overall record of 939-258. In 2021, WVC finished #20th ranked in the NJCAA Division 1 Poll and was GRAC Runner-Up.

In 2020, WVC finished as the National Academic Team of the Year with a 3.71 Team GPA

During his time at Wabash Valley he has been part of 8 Region XXIV Championships, 1 NJCAA National Tournament Final 4, and 13 Great Rivers Athletic Conference Championships.

Asa and his wife Megan have 3 children: Delaney (10), Jacob (8) and Cole (2).
