Lady Warriors extend GRAC streak to 62 straight

MT. CARMEL, ILL. – Wabash Valley jumped to a big lead early and coasted in from there, defeating Southeastern Illinois, 75-60, in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The 15th-ranked Lady Warriors led, 20-10, at the end of the first quarter, and gradually extended the margin to 23 points by the end of the third frame.

WVC (18-2, 10-0 in GRAC play) extended its record-breaking league winning streak in the process. The streak now stands at 62 games.

Lacey Shalenko's club enjoyed an overwhelming advantage in the paint, outscoring the Falcons there, 50-22.

Six-foot-2 freshman forward Jazmyn Turner recorded a double-double, with team-high totals in points (20) and rebounds (10). She entered the game as the third-best shooter in the nation, with a field goal percentage of 65.4% . Against SIC she bettered that figure, finishing 10-of-15 from the floor for 66.7%.

Keya Patton and Jordan Aikens finished with 14 points each, while Michaela White added 13.

Southeastern fell to 7-14 (3-7 in GRAC) with the loss. Staisha Hamilton led the Falcons with 15 points. Brooke Benton added 10.

WVC hosts Vincennes (19-3) in a key Region 24 matchup on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
