MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- Despite hitting only two of their first 18 shots from the field, the 12th-ranked Wabash Valley Lady Warriors still managed to grab an 18-point first-quarter lead en route to a 114-78 Great Rivers Athletic Conference basketball victory over Olney Central in the Homecoming game on Saturday at Spencer Sports Center.

Their 25th consecutive victory overall vaulted the Lady Warriors to 25-1 on the season and 13-0 in GRAC play. Olney Central fell to 6-17 and 3-9, respectively.

The Lady Knights jumped to a 5-0 lead in the opening minutes, but WVC recovered, using an 18-point run to build a 32-14 lead by the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the advantage was 59-32.

Even with the early struggles from the floor, the Lady Warriors finished the day at 49.4 percent on 43-of-87 accuracy. They were 7-of-17 from the arc line (for 41.2 percent) but especially adept at the foul line, hitting 21 of 24 free throws on the day (.875).

Shaulana Wagner led the way for Wabash Valley with 26 points. Brooklyn Gray was next with 22.

Five other players joined them in double figures: Chanteese Craig (15 points), Yiesha Williams (12), Trinitee Harris (11), Shanihya Brown (10), and Tamesha Dozier (10).

The 78 points put up by the Lady Knights was the second-highest output against Wabash Valley. And game-high scorer Gracie Shorter's 32 points is now the top individual game by an opposing player.

With one week left in the regular season, Luke Scheidecker's club has a chance to push two long streaks into next season.

The Lady Warriors play their GRAC finale on Wednesday at Shawnee. They have won 112 straight league games. Saturday, WVC entertains Vincennes on Sophomore Day at Spencer, where the hosts have won 98 games in a row.
