Lady Warriors Volleyball ready for tough test against Kaskaskia

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. ? The Lady Warriors look to bounce back tonight after a 3-1 loss Monday night at Southwestern Illinois College.

Despite a strong opening set from Wabash Valley, the Blue Storm won the opening frame 25-19 thanks to a .519 hitting percentage.

In the second set, errors cost the Lady Warriors as Southwest Illinois claimed a 25-11 win.

The third set was a different story as Wabash Valley served their way to a 25-17 set win. They hit for .259 and 13 kills in the set.

The Blue Storm claimed the set and match in the fourth in another closely contested set, 25-17.

With four games left in the regular season, there is still time for a strong finish to the season for Wabash Valley.

"I hope to continue to see the girls communicate and work hard toward playing our best volleyball of the season," Head Coach Rachel Refenes said. "The season isn't over yet; we have accomplished a lot as a team and played some great volleyball at times. We can peak leading up to the regional tournament."

Sophomore outside hitter Emmalynn Hart led the way offensively for Wabash Valley with eight kills. Middle blockers freshman Alexis Johnson and sophomore Madison Farmer both followed with seven kills each. Johnson led the way up front as well with four blocks in the match.

Freshman setter Alyssa Wilke had 35 assists in the match. She averages 8.24 assists per set, good for 24th nationally.

Freshman outside hitter Lexi Weber led the Lady Warriors at the service line with three service aces. Wabash Valley ranks 10th nationally with 225 service aces this season and their 2.05 services aces per set ranks 28th nationally.

Offensively, it continues to be a strong season for the Lady Warriors as they have put together 3,535 total attacks, which also ranks top-15 in the country.

Up next for the Lady Warriors (7-22) is a home conference game tonight against the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels (18-5) at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Warriors are hosting a free volleyball clinic for 1st-8th graders on Wednesday from 4-5pm.
