Warriors 3-0 after weekend sweep

MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- The Wabash Valley men's basketball team won two more home games over the weekend to improve to 3-0 on the young season. 

Friday, WVC defeated the Brescia JV team, 113-82, followed by a 92-84 win over Indiana Elite Prep on Sunday afternoon. 

Against Brescia, WVC blistered the net from both sides of the arc line and put five players in double figures in the process. The Warriors hit 8-of-12 3-point field goals and finished at just over 60 percent from the floor on the night (44-of-73). 

Returning starter Jakobi Heady led the way with 26 points, but also topped the score sheet with six assists. Inside, 6-foot-9 sophomore transfer Ksuan Casey shined, going 11-of-14 inside for 23 points. 

Also in double digits: Deshaun Nettles (18 points), Branden Razer-Moore (13) and Gary Clay (11). 

The Warriors led 49-34 at halftime, then rolled up 64 more points in the second half to finish the rout. 

Sunday, WVC found itself behind at halftime, 50-42, to a solid Indiana Elite team, before rallying to the win in the second half. 

Heady led the way again with 26 points. Nettles and Clay each chipped in 21 points, with Casey finishing with 11. 

Nettles recorded the team's first double-double of the season, adding 13 rebounds to his total. 

The Warriors were also in charge at the foul line, hitting 31-of-36 for 86 percent. 

Isaac Wodajo's team has two more home games this weekend in the Warrior Classic at Spencer Sports Center. 

Friday at 7 p.m. Wabash Valley (3-0) plays Danville Area (1-0), after the 5 p.m. Classic opener between Lincoln Trail (1-2) and Harry S. Truman (0-1 pending the outcome of a Tuesday matchup at Wilbur Wright). 

Saturday, Lincoln Trail and Danville Area meet at 1 p.m., followed by the Warriors vs. Truman at 3 p.m.
