MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- Danville Area almost gave up the entire lead it had built in the second half on Friday night.

Wabash Valley, once down by 11 points, got to within three, but could get no closer as the Jaguars eventually rebuilt the advantage to win the Warrior Classic game, 67-56.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak to open the season for the Warriors (3-1), who play again on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Harry S. Truman College of Chicago. Truman (0-3) lost to Lincoln Trail (2-2) in the first game on Friday night, 92-57.

Trailing 45-34 with 14 minutes remaining, Wabash Valley began its' biggest push of the night, a 14-6 spurt that brough the hosts to within 51-48.

The last of three separate times the Warriors closed to within that margin came at the 6:29 mark on two free throws by Ksuan Casey.

But the Jags responded with a six-point run over the next two minutes, and the hosts never got that close again.

"Credit Danville for not letting us get control of the game," said Wabash Valley coach Isaac Wodajo. "They had control of the game basically the whole time, and we were the ones with our backs to the wall trying to fight our way back."

The last Warrior lead of the night came near the five-minute mark of the first half on a 3-point field goal by Trayton Trice that made it 22-21. That is before a quick eight-point run, fueled by back-to-back triples by Ramelle Arnold, put the Jaguars back in control.

"We have to regroup," Wodajo said. "We'll watch the video. We will get better from it."

Jakobi Heady led the WVC attack with 17 points. Trice added 10.

Arnold's 14 points paced Danville Area (2-0).

This marked the second straight year the Jags, who next play Lincoln Trail Saturday at 1 p.m., pinned WVC with its' first loss of the year at the Classic.
