Warriors come up short in last-ditch rally at Danville Area, fall 79-76.

DANVILLE, Ill. -- Wabash Valley scored the last seven points of the game. But it was still too little, too late in a 79-76 non-conference loss to Danville Area here on Monday night. 

The loss dropped the Warriors to 8-6 on the year. Danville Area, with its' sixth straight win, improved to 9-33. 

When Stephen Atkinson hit a layup with 58 seconds left to give the Jaguars a 79-69 lead, it appeared the hosts had the game in hand. As it turned out they did, though Wabash Valley staged a last-minute rally which for a moment left the outcome in doubt. 

Gary Clay hit two free throws at 0:22 to make it 79-71. Trayton Trice then stole a pass with 12 seconds left that resulted in a Jakobi Heady layup at :06 to cut the deficit to 79-73.  

Brandon Rayzer-Moore's 3-point field goal at the horn accounted for the final score. 

Clay led the Warriors in scoring with 21 points. Heady added 17, and Trice finished with 15 points. 

Ksuan Casey had eight rebounds to lead WVC on the glass. 

Danville Area, which earned a two-game sweep of the Warriors for the season, was led by Atkinson's 16 points. Wabash Valley will have to wait until 2023 to try and end a two-game losing streak. The Warriors host Volunteer State, Tenn. (2-10) on Wednesday, Jan. 4th at 7 p.m. CST. 

In the meantime, Isaac Wodajo's club will have Christmas to spend with family and friends, before returning to Mt. Carmel for practice on Dec. 30th.
