GALLATIN, Tenn. -- In their second meeting in five days, Wabash Valley turned the table on Volunteer State, overwhelming the Pioneers in the second half for a 78-59 non-conference basketball victory on Monday night.

As you may recall, it was Vol State which had run away from the Warriors in the final 20 minutes for a 13-point win last week in Mt. Carmel.

Things were different in Round Two.

"A great response," was how Wabash Valley head coach Isaac Wodajo labeled the win. "On Wednesday night at home we did not come mentally prepared to win a college basketball game.

"Tonight, I challenged my guys to take some pride defensively and lock in on their leading scorer."

That target was Vol State freshman Asa Hardyway. A 6-foot-1 guard from Nashville, he had scored 25 points to lead the way last week.

However, in the second meeting, Hardyway was held to a season-low total of seven points.

"We need to continue that same level of effort and focus on the defensive end in Region play," said Wodajo, noting the schedule holds only Region 24 and/or Great Rivers Athletic Conference games from this point forward.

Wabash Valley led 36-34 at halftime, but took control in the second half, outscoring the hosts 42-25 to earn the decisive win.

WVC snapped a three-game losing streak in the process, improving to 9-7 on the season. Volunteer State fell to 3-11 with the setback.

The Warriors were led by Jakobi Heady, who scored 16 of his game-high total of 21 points in the second half. Ksuan Casey, who was also that dominant but in the first half when he scored 13 points, finished the night with 18.

Jalen Boyd joined in double figures with 11 points, while Trayton Trice added 10 for the winners.

The Pioneers were led by Avishai Lowery's 11 points.

Wabash Valley plays at home on Wednesday night against non-conference Region 24 opponent Lewis & Clark(4-8) in a 7 p.m. game.
