BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- Wabash Valley staged a dramatic rally on Saturday at Southwestern Illinois, outscoring the Blue Storm 21-7 over the last three minutes to post an 84-75 Great Rivers Athletic Conference men's basketball victory.

The win was a season-best fourth in a row for the Warriors, now 14-11 on the year, and 7-6 in the GRAC. Southwestern fell to 15-8 and 6-5.

"These last four in a row have been fun, but we have five games to go," said WVC head coach Isaac Wodajo. "We are not satisfied and have to continue to be intentional about our work."

Donovan Jones got the turnaround started with a 3-point field goal that brought the Warriors to within two points, 68-66, with three minutes left in the game.

Then, they surprised Southwestern by jumping into a press, and the results were immediate. Jakobi Heady made back-to-back steals, one that he converted with a layup, the other on a score from Jalen Boyd, and WVC was on top to stay, 70-68, with 2:25 remaining.

Boyd then knocked the ball away and fed Brandon Rayzer-Moore for two more points, adding an and-one himself on a drive to make it 75-70 with 1:33 showing on the clock.

With Southwestern now reeling, and forced to foul, the next five Warrior points came at the free throw line, followed by two slam dunks to punctuate the final seconds.

Yet it was Wabash Valley that appeared in trouble at halftime, when a collapse over the final six minutes of the first half enabled the Blue Storm to overcome a nine-point deficit with a 14-point run and 19-6 finish for a 37-33 advantage at the break.

"We showed a great response in the second half after being down at halftime," Wodajo said. "Then to go on a run with less than four minutes in the game shows this team's toughness."

Rayzer-Moore has put together a week of basketball that is seldom seen. He has now recorded three consecutive career-best scoring games, each game-high point total better than the previous. Against Southwestern, he scored 28 points, two better than the 26 points he scored against Rend Lake last Wednesday, and the 23 versus Lincoln Trail seven days ago.

Wodajo was left impressed.

"He is one of the best freshman in this region, and I can't imagine many other true freshmen around the country with a better stretch of games than he has had," Wodajo said. "He's figured some things out now and he's playing aggressively on both sides of the ball."

There were some anxious moments in the Warrior camp when Rayzer-Moore left the game at the nine-minute mark with what appeared to be a leg injury. But he returned in time to contribute seven points down the stretch.

There were three other double-figure totals in the Warrior scorebook. Heady finished with 16 points, Boyd 15, and Gary Clay with 11.

Southwestern was led by Jaquias Franklin, who scored 21 points.

WVC continues to play its' best basketball in the back-half of the GRAC schedule. The Warriors, who finished the first half with a 3-5 record, are now 4-1 on the second trip through the league.

Three of the last five games of the Wabash Valley regular season are at home, beginning with the next outing on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Kaskaskia (16-8, 6-5). Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Spencer Sports Center.
