Warriors drop opener at Motlow State, 3-1

MURFREESBORO, TENN. – Motlow State, Tenn. came from behind to post a 3-1 victory over Wabash Valley on Saturday, spoiling the season-opener for the Lady Warriors.

WVC got on the board first, in the 38th minute, on an unassisted goal by forward Taya Rush, the top returning scorer from last year.

Motlow evened the score at 1-1 by halftime, on a goal in the 44th minute by Abby Tolbert, also unassisted.

The host Bucks, from NJCAA Region 7, then scored twice in the second half to earn the win. Goals came from Kristen Gasaway in the 53rd minute, and Alyssa Buchanan in the 77th minute

"We scored first so we got that monkey off our back," said Lady Warrior coach Patrick Harris. "That was their third game and our first and it showed."

Olivia Brun got three shots on goal off in addition to the score from Rush. Motlow outshot the Lady Warriors, however, 13-4.

Said Harris: "I was disappointed in the loss but saw lots of positives to carry into our (next) game."
