MT. CARMEL, ILL. -- History will be made Monday evening on the Wabash Valley soccer pitch.

The Lady Warriors are set to host their first-ever NJCAA Region 24 tournament game, a 6 p.m. semifinal bout with Lincoln Trail.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but the almost certainty of rain in the forecast forced officials to move the game up by one day.

"There is something special about the post season," said WVC coach Patrick Harris. "It takes special teams with special players and moments that get the job done.  I think this whole week in training you can just feel the energy is very high and the girls and I are very excited."

WVC enters at 5-7-2 but has been especially hot lately. The Lady Warriors have won two games in a row and have gone undefeated in their last four. Included in the streak was their most explosive night of the regular season, a 5-2 win at Parkland.

Lincoln Trail also comes in hot, having finished the regular season on a 3-0-1 spurt. The Lady Statesmen stand 8-5-1 overall.

These two IECC and Great Rivers Athletic Conference rivals have met twice this season. Wabash Valley won, 3-1, on Sept. 17 in Mt. Carmel. Then on Oct. 7 in Robinson, they settled for a scoreless tie after regulation and two overtimes couldn't decide it.

"The part that makes (the game) extra special is that it's against our sister school LTC. I think rivalries are created and built up over time," Harris said. "We are currently undefeated playing them since the existence of our program, and we would like to keep that going on Monday."

WVC is the No. 2 seed in the four-team NJCAA Region 24 tournament. Lincoln Trail is seeded third.

The winner of the game meets for the championship against the winner of the other semi game pitting No. 1 seed and 14th-ranked Illinois Central (14-0) against No. 4 seed Lewis & Clark (6-8), a game still scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. in East Peoria.

"There is a real belief and like I said energy that you can just feel around the team right now," Harris said. "Hopefully we can make some more history for us as a program and not just on Monday night."

The game will be streamed live by News Channel 15 on the NJCAA portal. Watch it here: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/wabashvalley/

It will also be played back on News Channel 15 on Friday at 7 p.m.
