Baseball Warriors move up two spots to No. 4 in weekly Division I poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For the first time this season, Wabash Valley has entered the Top 5 in the weekly NJCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Warriors, 35-9 and winners of nine straight games, moved up two spots to fourth in the poll released on Monday. They garnered 136 votes from the national panel.

This marks the sixth straight year that WVC has been ranked in the top five at some point. Last year, the Warriors finished the regular-season ranked second, following three straight years at No. 1, including the 55-4 team of 2019 and the COVID-interrupted 2020 campaign. In 2018, the Warriors peaked at No. 3.

This week's Top 20 poll was marked by significant movement up and down the line, with only No. 1-ranked Walter State, Tennessee (41-6) and 16th-ranked McLennan, Texas (30-12) the only schools to retain their spots from one week ago.

Central Florida (42-4) moved from fourth to second this week, followed by Central Arizona (42-6), down one spot to third. Barton, Kansas (38-5) followed WVC in the No. 5 spot.

The Top 10 rounds out with Johnson County, Kansas (37-7) in sixth, Santa Fe, New Mexico (35-7) down four spots to seventh, Florence-Darlington, South Carolina (40-7), down three to eighth, Crowder, Missouri (34-11), up two spots to ninth, and No. 10 Iowa Western (37-6), down from ninth last week.

There are two newcomers to this week's Top 20: Wallace State-Hanceville, Alabama (29-11) in 19th, and Miami-Dade, Florida (28-12) at No. 20.

In Division II, LSU-Eunice remained on top, with two NJCAA Region 24 schools, No. 2 Heartland and No. 16 Parkland, in the Top 20.

There are no Region 24 schools in Division III.
