Lady Warriors win 100th straight GRAC game

MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- The Wabash Valley Lady Warriors turned their home opener into a piece of Great Rivers Athletic Conference basketball history on Tuesday night.

WVC defeated John A. Logan, 94-59, for its' 100th consecutive GRAC win. The Lady Warriors have not lost a league game since Nov. 22, 2016, when they fell at Southeastern, 75-70.

Playing in the friendly confines of Spencer Sports Center for the first time, it took a few minutes for the Lady Warriors to get untracked. When they did, a 16-point spurt to end the first quarter followed. The 22-5 score at the first break mushroomed to 48-16 by halftime and the damage had been done by the hosts.

Shaulana Wagner led WVC with 26 points. She was joined in double figures by Brooklyn Gray with 14, while Kuryn Brunson added 12.

The Lady Warriors struggled with shooting all night. Their final stat lines for field goal percentage (.413), 3-point field goals (.278), and free throw percentage (.590) were all below season norms.

Logan fell to 4-4 with the loss. The game was the GRAC opener for the Lady Vols as well.

Now that they have been home for one of their first six games, Luke Scheidecker's club hits the road again for six of their next eight dates. This weekend, the Lady Warriors play in a Classic at Mineral Area in Park Hills, Mo.

Friday, they will work off turkey in a 3 p.m. CST matchup against the host Cardinals (6-3). Then on Saturday at 3 p.m., they will meet up with an old friend in Jefferson College coach Cornelius Walker. Walker, a long-time Warrior men's assistant coach, is in his first year at the helm of the 1-8 Viking women.
