After receiving the two seed for the NJCAA Tournament, the Lady Warriors received a bye into the second round. Wabash Valley had to wait for the outcome of Casper Community College and Salt Lake Community College on Tuesday, March 25th, to see who their opponent would be. Casper went onto to defeat Salt Lake and had a date scheduled with the Lady Warriors. The Thunderbirds were the 15 seed, but had the opportunity to play their tournament games as home games, but at the Ford Wyoming Center. Casper brought a great crowd, but the sixth man wasn't enough to contain the Lady Warriors in a back and forth contest.
Casper jumped out to an early lead before the Lady Warriors could settle in. The Thunderbirds were depending on the offense of Andi Schissler, who finished the first quarter with 13 points. Her 13 points led all scorers, but Wabash Valley's Shamya Reid and Beautiful Waheed tallied nine points each in the first quarter. Casper had the lead after one quarter of play, 27-23.
At half, the Lady Warriors went into the break leading by five, 47-42. Wabash Valley scored 24 points in the second quarter.
The third quarter saw Schissler go for 11 of the 23 team points. That performance helped give her team the lead back, 65-64.
The fourth quarter was all Wabash Valley, as the Lady Warriors used a 10-0 run to start the fourth and take a 74-65 lead. That spark was enough for the Lady Warriors to run away with it, despite Casper putting together a late run in the fourth. Perhaps one of the biggest moments in the fourth quarter was a rare four point play for Shamya Reid, as she was fouled on a three point attempt and then converted the free throw. The Lady Warriors outscored the Thunderbirds 24-15 in the quarter to secure the win, 88-80.
Shamya Reid led the Lady Warriors with 28 points, while Beautiful Waheed added 21 points. Madison Lewis finished with 11 points. Also scoring for Wabash Valley was Erin Henry with eight points, Trinity Butler with eight points, Nakiya Harris with six points, Makaya Porter finished with four points, and Destini McAllister tallied two points. The Lady Warriors shot 49.2% from the field, while shooting 46.2% from three, and 82.4% from the free throw line.
The game saw six ties and 13 lead changes.
The Lady Warriors will face the winner of McLennan and Eastern Arizona on Saturday, at 1:15CST.
The leading scorer for the Thunderbirds was the North Texas commit Andi Schissler with 34 points.
