Lady Warriors defeat Mineral Area, 77-59, for seventh straight win

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- The Wabash Valley Lady Warriors improved to 7-1 on the season with a 77-59 victory over Mineral Area in the Chris Morrison State Farm Classic here on Friday. 

The win was the seventh straight for Luke Scheidecker's club following a season-opening loss to Three Rivers.  

If took until the fourth quarter for WVC (7-1) to open the game up. Ahead by only one point, 51-50, at the third quarter break, the Lady Warriors outscored Mineral Area (6-4) 26-9 to finally gain control. 

The game was tied at halftime, 39-all. 

Shaulana Wagner paced the winners with 18 points. Zhordan Shannon was next with 15. The Lady Warriors did all this despite a season-low one 3-point field goal. 

In the process, the host Cardinals managed to slow down the nation's highest-scoring offense in WVC, which entered the game averaging 101.8 points per game. 

Mineral Area, from Region 16, was led by Lexi McCully with 17 points. Audra Pasakarnis finished with 14. 

The Lady Warriors, ranked 17th in the Massy ratings, will finish Classic play on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Jefferson College, Mo. The Vikings are coached by long-time WVC men's assistant coach Cornelius CB Walker, who is in his first year at the helm. 

Jefferson was 1-8 prior to its' game on Friday against Rend Lake.
