MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- For the seventh consecutive season, the Wabash Valley Lady Warriors reign as the champions of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.

"It is a great honor for the girls. They work hard and deserve that opportunity," said coach Luke Scheidecker after Saturday's clincher, a 108-70 victory over Kaskaskia before home fans at Spencer Sports Center.

But it was not pretty.

"It was not our best performance today," Scheidecker said. "But you are going to have those days. We'll look at the film together, look at it individually, see what we need to fix and continue to improve."

The win improved the 12th-ranked Lady Warriors to 24-1 on the season, and 12-0 in the GRAC. Kaskaskia fell to 15-11 and 7-5.

The Blue Angels were ahead, 12-11 early in the first period when the Wabash Valley defense began to assert itself. The Lady Warriors scored 49 of the next 68 points to take a commanding 61-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Kaskaskia's total of 70 points was the most scored by a league team against WVC this season. The 108 scored by the Lady Warriors marked the 15th time they have been over the century mark this year.

Yiesha Williams, who got out of the gate quickly with 12 first-quarter points, finished team-high with 23 points. Brooklyn Gray and Shaulana Wagner each hit for 21 points, while Trinitee Harris added 12 points and Madison Roshelle 10 for Wabash Valley.

Guard Tracy Austin led Kaskaskia with 25 points.

The WVC victory was the 111th in a row in GRAC play, as well as the 97th straight at Spencer.

Scheidecker's chargers have a full week off before IECC sister school Olney Central (6-15, 3-7) visits on Saturday, Feb. 18th for a 1 p.m. GRAC game.
