WVC women improve to 4-1 with weekend sweep

VINCENNES, Ind. -- The Wabash Valley Lady Warriors won two games over the weekend at the Vincennes Classic to improve to 4-1 on the year. 

Friday, WVC defeated Delta College, 104-36, following that up with a 144-36 triumph over Malcolm X on Saturday. 

Here is a recap of both games: 

Wabash Valley 104, Delta 36 

Shaulana Wagner paced the winners with 22 points, one of five Lady Warriors in double figures. Joining her were: Kuryn Brunson with 13 points, Yiesha Williams (12), Tamesha Dozier (10), and Madison Roshelle (10).  

WVC put up identical halves of 52 points against the Michigan-based Pioneers. Delta managed 19 points in the first half, 17 in the second half. 

The Lady Warriors hit 43 of 83 shots from the field for 51.3 percent, while Delta shot only 24.2 percent (on 15-of-62 from the floor). 

Wabash Valley 144, Malcolm X 36 

The Lady Warriors put seven players in double figures in this 108-point rout. Wagner led the way with 29 points, followed by Trinitee Harris (19 points), Chanteese Craig (16), Shanihya Brown (15), Brooklyn Gray (15), Roshelle (14), and Ices Utegg (12). 

Craig also put up the game's only double-double with 12 rebounds added to her stat-line. 

The WVC defense, only turned on high during the first quarter, forced 47 Malcolm X turnovers in addition to 29 steals of its' own. That led to a score of 39-6 at the first quarter break, and 74-20 by halftime. 

On the game, the Lady Warriors shot 64.3 percent from the field on 54-of-84 accuracy, while holding the Falcons to under 30 percent (15-of-54). 

In other games at the Classic, host Vincennes (6-2) defeated Malcolm X (2-3), 96-70, on Friday. Then on Saturday the Trailblazers beat Delta (1-4), 83-43. 

Wabash Valley (4-1) finally comes home for the first time this season on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in Great Rivers Athletic Conference action against John A. Logan (3-3). The Lady Warriors will carry a 99-game GRAC winning streak into the game, as well as an 89-game home-court winning streak.
