Lady Warriors move up to 18th in NJCAA basketball poll

MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- Wabash Valley moved up four spots to 18th in this week's NJCAA Division I women's Top 25 basketball poll, on the strength of Sunday's 91-74 victory over Moberly Area, Mo.

The Lady Warriors improved to 11-1 on the season with the win at St. Louis CC. This is the highest ranking yet for Luke Scheidecker's club.

Moberly Area fell to 11-2 and dropped seven spots, to 21st.

There was considerable shuffling in the Top 10 this week. Trinity Valley, Tex. (12-1) fell out of the No. 1 spot, all the way to sixth after a 95-80 overtime loss to Eastern Oklahoma State (8-5).

Second-ranked Blinn, Tex. (11-1) lost too and fell to fifth.

The new No. 1 team is Eastern Florida State (13-0), last week fourth, which not only moved up the two spots occupied by the Texas schools but leapfrogged over Sunshine State rival Gulf Coast State (11-0), third a week ago, now second.

Southern Idaho (12-1) and South Georgia Tech (12-1) landed in third and fourth, respectively, ahead of Blinn, which rounded out the Top 5.

The two biggest gainers each moved up five spots this week: Pensacola, Fla. (13-2), from 17th to 12th, and Dodge City, Kan. (11-2), from 21st to 16th.

Jones, Miss. (6-3) took the biggest tumble, falling nine spots to 15th.

There was one new team in the poll this week. Barton, Kan. (11-2) took spot No. 18. Chattanooga State, last week 16th, fell completely out of the Top 25.

Wabash Valley plays two more times before Christmas: Saturday at Kaskaskia (8-6) and Mon., Dec. 19th at Danville Area (5-3).
