LUBBOCK, Tex. -- After being travelers on Tuesday and spectators on Wednesday, the Wabash Valley Lady Warriors will finally become players on Thursday at the NJCAA Division I national basketball tournament.

Out of the 24 teams gathered at the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University with a shot at the national title, the 30-1 Warriors landed the No. 7 seed and received a first-round bye. They will not play until the second round on Thursday at 8 p.m. CDT against the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between 10th-seeded Collin, Texas (29-2) and No. 23 Cochise, Ariz. (27-5).

Luke Scheidecker's club flew to west Texas on Tuesday, arriving in time to hit the court for their only pre-tournament shoot-around opportunity, a 30-minute session at Rip Griffin.

They will get a more serious practice in at a local high school on Wednesday afternoon before heading back to the tournament venue to watch and scout the 4 p.m. Collin-Cochise matchup.

WVC, ranked 12th in the final regular-season poll, has made the field for the last seven consecutive national tourneys but has only played in six of them (the 2020 tournament was cancelled only days before the event because of COVID).
