Warriors win Region XXIV Title

Warriors win the Region XXIV Championship 11-0 over Kaskaskia in 5 Innings.

Warriors were led on the mound by Collen Lollar, who went 5 innings, gave up 3 hits and struck out 6.

Matt Burch paced the offense going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's

Brian Fuentes had a home run and drove in 2 runs

Kobe Stephens also had 2 RBI's

 

Saturday

Miguel Rivera hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday afternoon to score Matt Murch for a 6-5 victory over Kaskaskia College in a Regional XXIV tournament game.

The Warriors will move on to Sunday's championship round. WVC will face either Southeastern or Kaskaskia in the finals. Those two teams play later Saturday evening with results not available at deadline.

Rivera was 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI. Ryan Layne finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Matt Burch hit a double and finished 3-for-5 with a run scored.

 
 

The Devils jumped out in front of Wabash Valley 4-0 thanks to a two-run fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth.

The Warriors captured the lead in the seventh by scoring five runs, but Kaskaskia tied it in the eighth before Rivera's RBI sacrifice game-winner.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dylan Burris singled followed by an RBI triple off the bat of Kobe Stephens to put the Warriors on the board, 4-1.

Noah Meyer was hit by a pitch leaving Stephens stranded at third. After a pop fly out and a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Ryan Layme kept the inning alive with a single into right field to score Stephens as Kaskaskia remained ahead 4-2.

From there, Rivera hit a three-run homer scoring Meyer and Layne ahead of him giving the Warriors a 5-4 lead.

 

Kaskaskia tied it, 5-5, in the top of the sixth inning then Rivera won it in the ninth.

The Warriors now play in Sunday's finals. If Wabash Valley wins the 12:30 p.m. game, WVC advances to the College World Series in Grand Junction, CO. If the Warriors lose the first game, then they'll play a winner-take-all contest immediately following.

 

 

On Friday, Against Southeastern Illinois Community College, Rivera hit a grand slam home run and finished with four RBI going 2-for-3 with two runs scored en route to a 10-0 win for the Warriors.

Burch was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Brian Fuentes finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while Stephans finished 2-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI.

Ryan O'Connell finished with a three-hitter going the distance (five innings) allowing three hits, no runs and striking out six while walking none.
