Another All-American haul of Warriors this year

Another All-American haul of Warriors this year

MT. CARMEL, Ill. -- The 2022-23 athletic year was another outstanding one at Wabash Valley College. And not just by the six Warrior and Lady Warrior teams themselves. Four student-athletes were named NJCAA All-Americans during the year.

Two athletes were named to the First Team, one to the second team, and there was one Honorable Mention selection. In fact, this marks the sixth consecutive year WVC has landed a First Team All-American pick.

The ranks have certainly swelled since basketball players Eric Curry and Darnell McGhee earned Honorable Mention status in 1978, becoming the school's first All-Americans. To date, an impressive total of 105 Warriors call themselves All-American.

Here is a brief look at this year's selections:

SHAULANA WAGNER
Women's Basketball

First Team

Shaulana, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard from Detroit, Michigan, will play next year at Troy. She averaged 19.9 points per game for the 12th-ranked Lady Warriors, who advanced to the NJCAA Division I national tournament for the seventh consecutive year. Shaulana saved her best individual performance for the national stage – torching nationally-ranked Three Rivers for a school-record setting 47 points in the ESPN Game of the Week at Spencer Sports Center. Wagner finished with exactly 1,000 points in her two-year career.

NICKLAS WILLIAMS
Baseball
First Team

Nick, a right-handed batting 6-foot sophomore from Mt. Plesant, Wisconsin, is headed to Michigan State this fall. He led the country in hitting with a .482 batting average, but he surpassed even that in the Juco World Series, going 16-of-24 (.667) in the No. 2 spot in the order for the third-ranked Warriors, who finished second in the nation. He was named to the all-tourney team and was named the Most Outstanding Hitter. Williams led the Warriors in all three Triple Crown categories: home runs (15), runs batted in (102) as well as his .482 batting mark.

RICHARD BONOMOLO, Jr.
Baseball
Second Team

Richard, a 5-11 freshman from Bronx, New York, joined Williams on the Juco World Series all-tourney team. The right-handed hitter was one of the top leadoff men in the country. He hit .449 (11th best in the country) with seven homers and 62 RBIs. He also led the 57-13 Warriors in stolen bases with 43 (seventh best) and was caught stealing only three times. Bonomolo is returning to Wabash Valley in the fall.

BROOKLYN GRAY
